Unfortunately the IBU World Campionships, held in Pokljuka from 9 to 21 February, finished without medals for the Italian national team.
The “Azzurri”, who competed in the Slovenian stage with the cal.22 ammunitions of the Fiocchi Biathlon line (Exacta Winter, Official Winter e TT Winter), made good performances approaching the podium several times in all disciplines. Dorothea Wierer conquered the 4th place in the Pursuit race and a good 5th place in the Mixed Relay with Lucas Hofer; Lisa Vittozzi placed fifth both in the Sprint and in the Mass Start.
Although she didn’t climb on the podium, Dorothea Wierer won the Individual World Cup, repeating the success of 2016 in the same event, which adds to two overall World Cup trophies (2019 and 2020), the Mass Start World Cup in 2020 and the Pursuit World Cup in 2019.
“Congratulations to all the “Azzurri” and to our Dorothea for this victory, the latest of a great career at the highest levels - said President Stefano Fiocchi - Even if this World Championship didn’t bring medals to the Italian national team, we are very proud of our athletes”.
