One medal and some regrets: that’s the tally the Italian NT collected at the sixth IBU World Cup Biathlon stage in Anterselva (ITA).
As the Italian athletes displayed some disappointing performance at the shooting range, the one who brighted the most was once again Dorothea Wierer — who confirmed to be among the ones to beat at the upcoming Winter Olympics.
The 27-year-old from Brunico started off the competition with a pretty good performance in he Sprint race, finishing 7th, 40 seconds behind the Gold medalist Tiril Echoff of Norway. A placement that, in the following Pursuit race, allowed her to compete for a medal all along the 10 kilometres, then finishing in 2nd place, 17.3 seconds away from the winner, Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier.
A further proof of her fantastic shape came in the third women’s event, the Mass Start, a race she led until the very last shooting range, where she missed two costly targets and slid out of the medal positions, concluding with another 7th place.
Inaccuracy also conditioned Dominik Windisch’s performance in the men’s Mass Start, where the 28-year-old that took 8th place with four total mistakes.
With six stages already in the books, the spotlight will now move to PyeongChang (KOR), where the 23rd edition of the Winter Olympic Games is scheduled to take place from the 9th to the 25th of February.
The IBU World Cup Biathlon will now reprise in March in Kontiolahti (FIN), then continuing in Oslo-Holmenkollen (NOR) and concluding in Tyumen (RUS).
