Three more medals — two golds and a bronze — adding up to the three won in Pokljuka: the Italian National Team nailed another fantastic performance in Hochfilzen (AUT), where the Azzurri team produced a great team effort all along the six events contested, pocketing three medals and finishing eight times in the top 10. The main protagonist of the Azzurri team, once again, was Dorothea Wierer: the 28-year-old athlete continued her fantastic moment, winning the sprint race with a 0.6-second gap on her main rival in the first part of the season — Finland’s Kaisa Makarainen — powered by a great performance at the shooting range, where she only missed one target. Unfortunately, Dorothea didn’t shoot with the same precision in the pursuit race, where she missed four total target and ended up in 3rd position, climbing on the IBU World Cup individual podium for the fourth consecutive race, also retaining the yellow bib. In the final days of the competition, then, the icy on the cake: Lisa Vittozzi, Alexia Runggaldier and Federica Sanfilippo teamed up with Wierer and ruled the women’s relay race, securing the gold medal ahead of Sweden and France. A good result also came in the men’s relay, as Thomas Bormolini, Lukas Hofer, Dominik Windisch and Thierry Chenal closed in 6th position. The IBU World Cup moves now to Nove Mesto (CZE), where the third stage of the season is scheduled from the 17th to the 23rd of December.
