The second-to-last IBU World Cup competition went down in Soldier Hollow (USA) from the 14th to the 17th of February. Italy’s Lukas Hofer and Dorothea Wierer climbed on the highest step of the Single Mixed Relay podium. The two Italian athletes ruled the race since the beginning, closing with 6 spare rounds and finishing ahead of Austria and France. For the Azzurri team it’s the 15th medal won during the 2018/2019 IBU World Cup, the sixth gold one and the first event in the Single Mixed Relay format. Moreover, with the Soldier Hollow victory, Dorothea Wierer became the third athlete in biathlon history to win at least one international gold medal in each race format. The biathlon circus will now travel back to Europe, where the IBU World Championship is scheduled from March 7th to March 17, in Oestersund, and where the IBU World Cup will conclude with its final stage, scheduled in Oslo Holmenkollen from March 18th to March 24th.
